Chickenfeed Bargain Stores

Chickenfeed Bargain Stores

Chickenfeed Bargain stores are the largest chain of discount variety stores in Tasmania.  Chickenfeed approached Broadband Wireless in 2003 to provide them with a broadband service at their service centre and warehouse in Cambridge.

Cambridge at the time was not a broadband enabled area.  Broadband Wireless built wireless infrastructure and delivered a one megabit symmetrical wireless connection for the warehouse.  Management was impressed with the speed, cost and reliability and began connecting their remote stores.

BBW is presently in the process of building a WAN for Chickenfeed covering another 28 stores around Tasmania.

Chickenfeed's challenges in trying to do this is that they run a point of sale (POS) application that is extremely sensitive to the reliability of the network. The POS polls head office for updates in stock transactions and stock levels and head office then polls in the opposite direction and updates stock levels to the store and provides updated pricing and related data.

Broadband Wireless had to maintain a high quality network whilst also providing a low cost solution to an organisation whose business model revolves around cost effective strategies. BBW enabled delivery of a one megabit symmetrical connection to every site for a very cost effective price.
